Best Movie Soundtrack of 2016 - Suicide Squad
I knooooooowwww you are probably sick to death of hearing about this movie, this year, but seriously... can we please just take a second to step back and appreciate the most amazing part of it?
As a film student, I was taught to pick apart movies, piece by piece, to a point where I can now very seldom enjoy a film without finding continuity errors, commenting on the cinematography or even finding the smallest fault in the editing. The one part they never taught us to pull apart was the soundtrack, so this is now where I find my joy in films. I have always loved music, but a good soundtrack stands out to me now, more than ever. It's probably why I have carried on watching The Vampire Diaries, through their crappy sixth season.
Like any normal person this year, I have done my fair amount of vegetating on the sofa, while binge watching series, and have even kept up to date on most of the latest movie releases. I think I ended my 2016 cinema experiences on a high note yesterday when I want to go watch Star Wars Rogue One. Soundtrack unfortunately wasn't too impressive, on that one.
Out of all this year's binge-watching and movie-going, the imaginary “Storm Award” for best soundtrack definitely goes to Suicide Squad. Excuse my French, but it was f#cking awesome!
Right from the opening scene, those geniuses at Warner Bros make love to your eardrums, with a mix of both new and older artists, including Panic at the Disco's take on the Queen classic, Bohemian Rhapsody.
And seriously... who would have ever thought to put Avril Lavigne and Marilyn Manson together, for that “Bad Girl” song? It's sort of like the same level of innovation as whoever invented chilli chocolate. An unlikely combination, but it works.
Enough with my fangirl raving though. You can check out the soundtrack for yourself here:
